Where

While many organizations seek to influence public policy on a national level, working primarily in Washington DC, Issachar LLC focuses on issues here in the state of Missouri, and occasionally on local issues. Issues on the state and local level (what is being taught in our schools, what materials our libraries offer to minors, whether gambling will be allowed in our communities, etc) often have a greater impact on our day to day lives than national issues. For instance, the federal government does not care is we have slot machines in every gas station, nor does the federal government concern itself with policies regarding foster care.

Additionally, fighting battles on a national level often cannot occur until victories are won in several states. Having a positive influence on the state level helps add to the momentum of bringing positive change on the federal level.

Why Issachar?

About 3000 years ago, the nation of Israel was divided. King Saul had died in battle along with Jonathan. The tribe of Judah had recognized David as God’s anointed king. But Saul’s son Ish-Bosheth had been made king over all the other tribes of Israel, and a long civil war that would determine the nature and trajectory, even the survival, of the nation ensued. After 7 years of murder, intrigue, and war, the people of Israel were tired and weak; and David grew steadily stronger, but the house of Saul grew weaker continually.  Many defected to David’s side, ready to fight to the death to make David their king. But the men of Issachar understood the times and knew what Israel ought to do. Not through their bows and swords, but through their wisdom and understanding, they played a significant role in restoring peace and establishing order in their nation, bringing their fellow Israelites into closer alignment with the will and purpose of God. (See I Chronicles 12.32)

We also live in a day marred by a great war. Conflicting worldviews that, at times, have actually erupted into violence. The battle between good and evil is being fought in our schools, in our government, in our workplaces, and all to often even in our homes. It is time for followers of Christ to engage the battle – not with swords, but with wisdom, righteousness, and resolve.
